Are you sure?

It feels like the Daily Cal reporter got this exactly wrong:
Wing added that UCPD took the recent Northern Illinois University shooting into consideration when dealing with the incident.

"Obviously (the shooting) came to mind. People are extremely sensitive to that issue because it's so recent in the news," he said. "We would have taken the same security measures we did anyway to ensure the safety of our campus community."
Now, the Daily Cal often puts completely unrelated quotes next to statements, but if these are related, then it seems like the police dude is saying that, while folks are thinking about the shooting, they took security precautions they would've taken anyway, which is exactly the opposite of what the sentence above the quote says.
