Oh, and...

So, Joshua Daniels doesn't like it when graduate students get involved with the ASUC Senate. You can sort of see it here, with his "You can bypass the candidates and go straight to the referenda. They all directly affect grad students, including law students" comment. The reason, of course, is that if the elected ASUC Senate represents grad students, then his unelected GA will lose its legitimacy. The GA-MOU from last year reinforced the point, as he did personally to me when we met.

"here" only links to the general ASUC election website in your post right now, Beetle. Are you going to edit it?

I don't think the GA would lose its legitimacy if grad students would more involved in the ASUC Senate. Yvette Felarca was in the Senate for years as a grad student. Also, the GA would still be the clear voice speaking only for grads, since obviously the ASUC would not be majority-grad student. If this is really what Josh Daniels said, I find it highly disappointing that he wouldn't want grads to have a voice in the ASUC. But, Beetle, wasn't one of your earlier posts about how Josh Daniels invited all the ASUC candidates to speak at a GA meeting? So, that tells me he does at least in part want grads to vote for candidates in the ASUC election.

He has no problem having elected folks prostrate themselves before graduate students. That's a different issue. Sure, the GA wants to know who's running, but the GA is not "graduate students" and doesn't pretend to be.

I just read your edited link.

To me his statement comes across as anticipating likely responses (like the anonymous comment at the bottom) that the ASUC is irrelevant to grads and grad students shouldn't vote. To me he's saying, no, it's relevant -- even if you're too cynical to vote for candidates, there are fees. He ends his post by referring to candidates, so to me he is not advising people to ignore them.
