I win!

The Daily Cal says no to the fee referenda. Well, except for the TGIF, but that almost doesn't count as a "referendum" (implying a possibility of not passing).

Ooh I like it, same way I'm voting on the fee referenda.

Is the Daily Cal doing endorsements on the other referenda too?

They endorsed the constitutional amendments, if that's what you're referring to.

Ah, thanks, sorry for the imprecise language.

Beetle, can you remind us how you suggest voting on the Greek Life Amendment? Thanks.

I'm getting a little tired of the Daily Cal talking about other publications the same way rich people talk about poor people.

"They're hungry? I hear dogs are good eatin'."

Case in point, the clog saying "But if you ask these student groups to pay for advertising space, then wouldn’t you not need the fee?"

This of course ignores that the Squelch already raises a full third of its budget from advertising, including a significant percentage in the form of ads from student groups.

Then in their no statement today, they say "but all of these are arguments that should be brought to the attention of senators at the fund distribution meeting."
And of course as anyone knows, the Squelch, along with most other publications and groups, does in fact show up to these meetings and beg and plead and scream and promise to be people's best friends forever.

I certainly understand people opposing the referendums, but the Daily Cal, thanks to their very, very cozy deal for office space from the ASUC, really has no idea how funding for actual student groups and publications work. So when they talk about stuff like this, they always act like there's some really easy and obvious solution that the student group is just too stupid to think of. The bad thing is that it makes the voters think that's the case.

"Oh, we can get advertising in our magazine!?"
"Oh, we can ask senators for more funding!? Thank god you were here Daily Cal!"

It reminds me a lot of their big huge announcement in 2001 that they'd discovered an exciting new technology called PDF and would no longer have to drive all their prints to their publisher in Union-City. They talked about visiting Yale and other campuses and finding out about all these new technologies. But of course, they could've just visited any of the other smaller publications on campus like the Squelch which had already been operating digitally for years.

Sorry for going off on a rant. I understand the opposition, it just really bugs me when they say out of touch bullshit like this and make it seem like everyone else is stupid.
