BIE - Party
After tonight's Daily Cal forum, that'll be pretty much the last of the information for executives, and I'll do my "informed" endorsements for them. Actually, I'll do two: One among all candidates, and one among candidates that could possibly win.
But today, I'll do party endorsements, presumably for the Senate or some such.
The party endorsement goes to SQUELCH! for consistently having a platform of respect for the ASUC's rules and respect for the ASUC's members, which is shown by focusing on giving money to student groups so they can use it directly, rather than trying to make student groups go through the ASUC government so political folks can take credit for the work. As a reminder, while SQUELCH! runs a comedic campaign, it is meant to criticize other campaigns, and SQUELCH! senatorial candidates are absolutely serious about doing real work in the ASUC Senate. While CalSERVE has adopted some of these platforms, SQUELCH! has demostrated its willingness to stick to it, and we haven't seen that from CalSERVE yet. (As we get nearer to the election, I should be able to give a list of serious SQUELCH! candidates so you can still try to get part of your vote to count somewhere else)
The secondary party endorsement goes to CalSERVE. As mentioned above, CalSERVE has made some effort to adopt the SQUELCH! platform of accountability and student-led efforts. They've also said that they will not hesitate to demand things from the university, and give the impression that they won't just do as the university says *cough* Lower Sproul *cough*. CalSERVE also does not make a special effort to come off as a bunch of liars and obfuscators. So this year, unlike nearly every other year, I'm going to overlook my distaste for ideological goals in the Senate and endorse CalSERVE over Student Action.
