Eyes on the prize

Apparently, education is not a right, but a diploma is. Or so folks seem to be saying. See, it's okay if poor people go to shitty schools and fail to receive a public education, but it's not okay if poor people who go to shitty schools and fail to receive an education are not allowed to pretend like they received an education. I guess. It seems to me that equal protection would demand that everyone receive an education, not that everyone gets the diploma.

The article mentions Berkeley High...for those who DO manage to actually graduate but don't have the grades to go to a good college, the district has a way to paper over this unfortunate fact and maintain their reputation (among liberals) as a 'good' school...they have an arrangement with UC Santa Cruz wherein many BHS grads are accepted into UCSC's 'Diversity School' REGARDLESS OF THEIR GRADES. The little dears get to go to college, and Berkeley High gets the statistics showing students accepted 'into the UC system'. I suspect more fraud is forthcoming.
