That's crazy!
Everyone now knows that the dude on the right is crazy, as he's apparently getting a mental health screening as he walks by.
Anyway, the bowing and scraping to crazy people continues. Why we can't just laugh in their inferior faces remains unexplained.
For some UC Berkeley students, balancing personal lives while staying afloat in the school's often competitive atmosphere can lead to depression and other mental problems.
Honestly, how competitive is Berkeley? This is yet another example of people ignorantly predicting that it's going to be competitive/stressful, and then assuming that they are in a competitive/stressful environment, all while they live and study in a non-competitive/non-stressful environment.
"I think any place where you have bright students with high stress levels and competitive natures, it's hard for people to ask for help," said fifth-year Jennifer Diamond, a co-coordinator of the group. "I think it's hard for people to admit, 'I'm feeling weak.'"
Ha. Fifth year. I guess we can't all be bright students.
"It's more socially acceptable to talk to peers," said junior Nardeen Maximous. "I'd like to say there isn't a stigma to seeking professional help, but there is."
With a name like Nardeen Maximous, you should be able to say whatever you want, and it will instantly become true.
Student clients of the service are encouraged to express and talk out their academic and personal problems in hopes of becoming empowered, rather than just receiving advice.
Which is good, because the advice these folks give would probably just reinforce everyone's self-imposed "competitive/stressful environment."
"Adjusting to a big university my freshman year was hard," said junior Naz Nami, who struggled with an eating disorder for six years. "Berkeley is such a big university-it's much more impersonal than high-school-and being in science classes with hundreds of people was really hard."
Sounds like Naz's craziness predates Cal. It's kind of hard to blame it on Cal. Unless, of course, you create your own oppressive atmosphere, like crazy people like Naz do.
Let me just list the names.
Jennifer Diamond Nardeen Maximous Naz Nami
I think I'm going to blame their parents, who are clearly just as crazy.
By the way, where's Temina Madon? Shouldn't she be throwing a fit because they're talking about undergraduates, rather than her grad student pals who kill themselves? Raise student fees! That's the only way to solve this problem!
