Gee, that's enlightening
Oh noes!!! Hispanics have a smaller average financial aid package size than the nation as a whole! Note this article with a general lack of comparisons in things like "percentage receiving aid" between Hispanics and others, or family income and its relation to others receiving financial aid, rather than in relation to all undergraduates. Maybe Hispanics just tend to fall in that "poor enough for aid, but not poor enough for a lot of aid" category, compared to, say, blacks (a race I'm pulling out of my ass, because the Daily Cal did such a crappy job of reporting information), who are poorer and bring up the national average in aid size.
According to the report, 85 percent of Hispanics were U.S. citizens, compared with 93 percent of all undergraduates. Hispanics were also twice as likely to be resident aliens as all undergraduates.
"Undocumented students need more information on private scholarships, since they are usually not eligible for federal or state financial aid," said Jesse Escobar, recruitment coordinator for Raza Recruitment and Retention Center, an on-campus group that provides outreach efforts to the Hispanic community.
Although citizenship status affects financial aid eligibility, there is a benefit to attending UC Berkeley, [admissions veek Richard Black] said.
"The good news is, you don't have to pay non-resident fees, but the bad news is that you don't qualify for federal, state or institutional financial aid if you're an undocumented resident," he said.
Oh, and by the way, you're committing a federal crime even being here, but we'll let that slide, and pretend like you're entitled to aid as we charge people who are in the country legally for out-of-state tuition.
