ASUC Butt Out! We hate smokers! We hate tobacco companies!
Tobacco money is money with strings attached, and it’s antithetical to UC’s mission of discovering and advancing knowledge.
I've got some bad news for these Butt Out folks. All research money comes with strings attached. Car companies, for instance, rarely hand money to universities for fun. They usually want to see some research related to cars. The feds require a research proposal before they hand out grants. Even if string-attachment is antithetical to UC's mission of discovering and advancing knowledge, a complete lack of research funds is, too, which is the alternative.
