That's too bad Go out and grab a newspaper today and read Alex Liu's column. It's too good to be on The Daily Cal's website, so you'll have to read it in person. It's got a valuable message. His homosexuality led to tension with his father. Of course, those of us who have fathers but are heterosexual may note that heterosexuality also leads to tension with your father. Also, being your father's son will lead to tension with your father, as will his being your father. There's not much more for a father to tell his son than "suck it up." It doesn't take an uncaring father, or a father in denial, or a father unwilling to deal with his son's true nature to say "suck it up." All it takes is the recognition that the problems are his son's, and so his son is going to have to deal with them. Most problems are best solved with "suck it up." Don't like the way that guy over there is looking at you? You could go over there and start a fight, sure, but it's easier just to suck it up. Book Review Man, I'm so bored, I've fallen all the way down to reading. Books, even. I finally got around to reading Catch-22. It wasn't bad, though it certainly dragged towards the end. It makes plenty of good jokes at the expense of common convention ("Suppose everyone felt that way?" "Then I'd certainly be a damned fool to feel any other way, wouldn't I?") but it also has its occasional "deep thought" sections which are so horrendously unentertaining that they allowed the book to be considered "literature" by English scholars. The most interesting part of the book was wandering into Waldenbooks to buy something for my flight and discovering that comic book-type stories had suddenly fallen under a new category of book, "graphic novels," that has always meant something different to me. Hey hey! Guess who's back in town, kids! If you guessed someone other than me, you may be right. But if you guessed me, you're definitely right. Doe Library netted me two strange sightings as I was coming through campus. One is that there was a bride in front of it. (Do people get married on campus?)
