Oops

I forgot this. Travis Garcia wants a more open party structure or some such.
"(My inspiration) was frustration for how difficult it is for any candidate to run a campaign against CalSERVE or Student Action," he said.
Well... yeah. Still, seeing as how the reason it's difficult is because a bunch of people stump for them, I don't see this as any kind of unfairness. A sad commentary on the state of the student body, perhaps, but not unfairness.
In his proposal, Garcia says he would like to lower the amount an executive candidate can spend on a campaign from $1,000 to $500 and lower the limit for senatorial campaigns from $200 to $150.
Um... dude... those limits are meaningless, and changing them won't make much difference. To understand this, simply consider that those DONE flyers were not campaign material and wouldn't count against this limit.
Garcia, who is not a senator, will need to find a current senator to sponsor his proposal before it can be discussed or considered on the senate floor.
Oh, darn, another error by the Daily Cal. Technically, if you get a number of signatures equal to the quota in last year's Senate election, you can sponsor a bill without a senator. Of course, if you can't get a senator to sponsor your bill, it's probably not going to pass, but whatever.
