News from the committees

J Koo has the highlights.

We attended much of the Finance Committee meeting today. Some interesting news tidbits:

1) Senators Jane Park, Dwight Asuncion, and Jeff Manassero have removed themselves as sponsors/authors for the bill. They can still vote for it, but this does mean they no longer want their name associated with the bill.

2) The finance officer noted that his discussions with different senators showed vastly different narratives, and he concluded that most people don't know what the hell they're talking about, as we've already established here. As a result, he recommended that the committee table the bill, which it did. It can still be brought up for vote at the Senate meeting, though, with the approval of seven senators, I'm told.

3) The Constitutional Review Committee decided to rephrase the last "resolved" clause to something broader and less condescending. I didn't write it down in detail, because, quite frankly, that clause itself probably means nothing until the Committee actually gets around to changing the by-laws. (It was the one about changing the rules to avoid future elections problems)

Who's Jeff? ;-)

Funny coincidence, that's what I kept calling my newest assistant manager at my sporting goods store before getting James in my head.

Ahem. I have no idea what you're talking about. *whistling*
